Launch of Henry's latest book
Hello,
As I say in my video: "I have written another book!"
This one is called The Swift Current Mennonite Reserve 1904-1927. Some of you have read either one or both of my two family history books and/or you also grew up living in or near Rosenhof, so you are familiar with the area and its history. But in this book I take a closer look at the history of the land around Swift Current before the Mennonites moved there and then talk about those early pioneering years. From there I outline the establishment of villages, churches and German language schools. However the bulk of my book is about the vision of the Old Colony/Reinlaender Mennonites as to how they ought to live and how that was challenged by the SK government's demand that English Public Schools replace the Private German Schools. The resulting conflict led the Mexican Migration in which approximately one-third of the Mennonites left the Reserve near Swift Current.
In my final chapter I explore this quesion: was it foolish or courageous for the leaders on the Reserve to promote the migration? I would be interested to hear what you think. (after reading the book of course!!)
To get the book, simply reply to this email or email me at [email protected]. The cost is $25 which includes the shipping costs. Be sure to send my your mailing address.
